Hi Dr Richard-I hope that this is the right forum. In light of what happened with both girls who was abducted and killed and the NJ priest found dead/murdered in his kitchen, how come some children and others escaped death by the skin of their teeth eg angels intervening and others are allowed to suffer horribly and murdered? I know that all children are precious and means the world to Jesus. I personally twice had close calls where I felt that an angel intervened on my behalf-got hit by a car and another-lost control of my car-I wasn't hurt in either one. Short of a miracle, I think. I cried upon learning of that poor seven-yr-old Florida girl, Somer's death for I too have a daughter that age. Some kids are divinely protected while other children aren't-why? Oh, being in the air force reserves-I've heard of troops coming back safely from war and yet got killed on the highway while on leave. Another case in point-that plane in Detroit MI in Aug 1987 crashing and the only survivor is that four-yr-old girl. I am just trying to make sense of this-thank you so very much-sincerely, laura barlow |

Dear Laura, Everybody has to die at some time or other. God is the master in this realm. But we do not understand how God thinks or works although we see that Christ, who is God, was very loving. And yet he allowed himself to suffer on the cross in a most horrible way. He subjected himself to the devil and to evil men to show that nevertheless God is not absent. But that takes faith in order to believe and live it. That takes time. The devil and evil people would like us to think that evil has the final word. We have to resist that temptation and ask for grace so that our heart accepts this. Dr. Geraghty |
