In faith how does one become a cathoilic and how can one drink of the commuion if they are on meds
Question from mary on 6/3/2009:

I have been thinking about following my mom's path in becoming catholic. It is hard to find a church around here at all. I have have just recently found God back in my life. I wish to try to learn more of the faith, but I know that I have one thing that is holding back my conversion if it was to be. I am on meds that dont allow me to drink wine. What am I to do about this if I was to eventually be able to do communion ?

Answer by David Gregson on 10/29/2009:

To become Catholic, you will need to find a parish near you where you could attend RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) classes. They begin in September, so you would probably have to wait intil next year. Meanwhile, I suggest you get a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, or else the shorter Compendium of the Catechism. Both are available from our Religious Catalogue section, or from any online bookstore.

Regarding your question about taking Holy Communion while on meds. The Catholic Church teaches that the full benefit of Communion is received either from the Host or from the Cup. Many communicants receive from the Cup only occasionally. You wouldn't have to receive from it at all.
