Abortion question
Question from Rocco on 10/30/2009:

Judie,

A dear friend of mine, who does not believe in abortion for herself, but she says that if the Catholic Church is so against abortion, then why don't they pay to help raise a child who is not wanted in the first place?

I don't know how to answer her question other then tell her that only God is the Author of life, its Murder, Pro-Choice is just a word which really means pro-murder.

Secondly, my wife. My marriage is not a healthy one to begin with and we are separated but live in the same house with our 2 children, ages 14 & 12. I am por-life and she is pro-choice. THe other night she said that no one can tell a woman what she can or can't do with her body. A man doesn't understand this. I said that its not the woman's body but a baby's body and if that is true about not telling a woman what she can or can't do with her body, then I suppose its OK if a woman shoots her self with cocaine and other illegal drugs. SHe said that's right.

I have been praying for her for years but she just doesn't get it and instead, remains ignorant. I don't engage in an argument because it does no good anyway.

But getting back to my friend's question, how do I answer her?

Thank you and God Bless you. Rocco

Answer by Judie Brown on 11/2/2009:

Dear Rocco

Time and time again not only the Pope but various Catholic Bishops have answered questions like her by saying send the expectant mother to us and we will care for her and her child. The problem with her question is she really doesn't want that answer; she wants to remain in denial.
