Recent USCCB Bulletin Insert
Question from Anonymous on 11/2/2009:

Dear Judie Brown,

I do not understand the directives on the recent bulletin insert created by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. I have read the insert and it is regarding voting for pro-life candidates, but it was not in our bulletin this week.

We have a priest who is very reluctant to speak of abortion or pro-life matters, but my question is, is this insert intended to be used again, or do you recommend that we not try to insert them since it is later on and past the time for special elections? Are priests really even required to include them, or does it differ from bishop to bishop.

Thank you in advance for your answer to my questions.

Rebecca

Answer by Judie Brown on 11/2/2009:

Dear Anonymous

Since the election will be over before next weekend I don't see a reason to ask that the insert be used. The only current Church bulletin insert I know about regards health care reform, and it is on the Internet. However I do not think a catholic pastor can be forced to use something the USCCB is recommending.
