Abortion funding
Question from christopher on 10/24/2009:

Judie,

After abortion was made legal in 1973, what year did tax dollars begin funding it? What was the yearly dollar total when it first started and what is it now? In short, what is the total cumulative dollar amount that has funded abortion?

Answer by Judie Brown on 10/26/2009:

Dear Christopher

The federal government began funding abortion soon after Roe vs. Wade and at that time Congressman Robert Baumann, and after him Congress Henry Hyde, proposed restrictions on which abortions taxpayers could pay for. It started with a total ban and then life of the mother abortions were approved for payment, and in 1981 abortions for rape and incest were added.

As far as the total amount of money being spent on abortions right now by the federal government is concerned, I have no accurate data on that.
