Amnionic stem cells
Question from Curious George on 7/5/2012:

Reuters news service reported that new research has shown that human stem cells taken from amniotic fluid may be transformed to a state similar to embryonic stem cells and used in medicine.

Their study had shown that these cells can revert to being fully flexible, or "pluripotent", by adding a chemical that modifies the configuration of the DNA.

Will the Church allow this or maintain that since these cells are similar to a zygote, they are persons?

Answer by Judie Brown on 7/18/2012:

Dear George

THe jury is still out on the ethics of this procedure.
