Why isnt pro-life an inclusive topic to multiple issues
Question from DK on 9/6/2012:

I have recently been active on a facebook page called Catholic! (Catholic plus the exclamation point following is the name of the webpage)

It appears that abortion is being used as a litmus test type issue or wedge issue....and I dont know why the Church is silent on this. If we are to be pro-life, that should be inclusive to so many issues, such as war, protection of nature, helping the poor, etc. Yet, the people who shout so hardly regarding abortion normally are not for being pro-life with the other issues. I am at a loss for how this situation has happened.

What does the Church think is happening, or what can we do to help make pro-life a multiple-issue phrase?

Thank you.

Answer by Judie Brown on 9/9/2012:

Dear DK

We focus on the grievous assaults on God and His nature as defined by the Catholic Church as intrinsic evils including abortion, euthanasia, contraception, human embryonic stem cell research, human cloning.

Other questions such as war, protection of nature and so forth require prudential judgment and are open to discussion regarding how best to solve the problems at hand. These questions are not defined by the Church as intrinsic evils.
