Catholic Morality and the Workplace
Question from Peter Cole on 10/27/2009:

Dear Judie, The woman who wrote regarding her work situation and its clear violation of Catholic Teaching is sadly not alone. I was told that when I was working with the ARC that I was expected to respect their lifestyle wishes even if they differed with my beliefs and practices. One man had it written into their care plan that if he wanted pornography the staff had to take him and they could not refuse. When I objected to this I was told it is not about you. True, it is not about me. It is about God's law. We even had one severely retarded woman undergo 3 abortions after being impregnated by staff. Frightning. Depending on the position one might run into the problem regularly as is the case for this lady or on occasion. Remember the church teachings and go by them. If this means your job look for something else. Try to leave on good terms though. Even when we disagree, they may be good enough to help us with our next job. Ultimately we should watch what we are getting into from the start. Some jobs are going to expect us to put aside religion while we are there.

Answer by Judie Brown on 10/28/2009:

Dear Peter

The culture is sadly in denial about the basic reason why any of us even exist: God loves us! Thank you for your wisdom.

Judie Brown
