Pope Francis & birth control to prevent STDs
Question from Annette Savoie on 4/21/2013:

I have a Catholic friend who stated that she is very happy with Pope Francis. She says that unlike the other popes, Pope Francis has stated that he is for some birth control in certain circumstances to prevent STDs. Is this true? I would appreciate an answer to this question so I can tell my friend what is the truth.

Answer by Judie Brown on 4/23/2013:

Dear Annette

Your friend is wrong on both counts. First, Pope Francis does not advocate for birth control, never has nor could he since the Church teaching on this subject is infallible.

Second the birth control pill does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases including HIV
