Pro life employment
Question from Yvonne Petrocci on 9/10/2012:

I am an R.N. in Florida. I am a very conservative and pro Life Christian. I live exactly 2 miles from the Hospice where Terri Schiavo died and about a mile or so from where her mother lives. My question is this: Is it morally okay for me to seek employment at this Hospice? It is associated with "Project Grace" which was part the whole Schiavo ordeal. I want to give compassionate care but I'm just not sure about this one. Is the Hospice platform at odds with the Pro Life movement? Thank you in advance for your answer.

Respectfully, Yvonne Petrocci

Here is an answer from an expert on the subject regarding PROJECT GRACE. THE EXPERT, PRESIDENT OF LIFETREE, wrote me:

The "third path" vehicle to hastened death is palliative medicine which LifeTree has written about extensively at www.lifetree.org. Read Project Grace's latest newsletter. (http://www.projectgrace.org/media/6203/fall%202011.pdf). This newsletter stresses how much effort is devoted to advance care planning which we know is part of the "third path" strategy, i.e. palliative medicine. The newsletter also says that today's palliative medicine began with the hospice movement. I would refer this lady to the POLST, Conscience and Bishopl von Galen's Sermon piece which is on our website at www.lifetree.org. Bottom line: Inevitably, there will be conscience problems in this line of work.
