Hysterectomy
Question from anon on 11/3/2009:

Dear Judie,

Is having a hysterectomy going against the teaching of the church? My obgyn said that I should have had one a long time ago (I'm in my 40's) as I have humongous fibroids and a large cyst on one of my ovaries. My stomach does feel and look bloated and has been that way for a few years now. Apologies if I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill. But just wondering. Thanks!

Answer by Judie Brown on 11/4/2009:

Dear Anon

I had the same condition, and waited so long that ovarian cancer developed before my hysterectomy, which was a radical one and was performed at age 39. It is not a sin to get this surgery as long as you have had a second opinion and are convinced that this is the only way to solve the problem.
