CHINA: ANOTHER BISHOP FAITHFUL TO THE POPE ARRESTED
Rome, 15 (NE) Italian news agency ANSA reported today that
police in China has arrested again a Bishop of the "clandestine"
Catholic Church, faithful to the authority of the Holy Father.
According to ANSA, Bishop Tommaso Zeng Jingmu was arrested
yesterday in a village in the region of Jiangxi, in central
China. Also arrested together with the eighty-year-old Bishop
was his Auxiliary Bishop Deng Hui and a priest. Bishop Tommaso
Zeng Jingmu has spent 32 of his 80 years in prison. He was
arrested again yesterday afternoon and his whereabouts were
still unknown at the moment of the report. A few days ago, Fides
agency confirmed the kidnapping of another Chinese Bishop
faithful to the Pope, Bishop Jiang Ming Yuan, arrested on August
26. "The arrest of Bishop Jiang", reported Fides on that
occasion, "is another chapter in the campaign launched by the
Chinese government at least six years ago to completely
eliminate the underground Church".
