Communion at SSPX church
Question from Anonymous on 04-30-2015:
My brother attends Mass at a church of the Society of St. Pius X. He is 87. When he dies, I presume I can attend the Requiem High Mass. May I receive Communion at this funeral Mass? I am a religious. Would it be giving scandal?

Yes, you can attend your brother's funeral Mass if it occurs at an SSPX church, but I cannot recommend receiving Communion. SSPX priests do not have licit faculties to celebrate the sacraments, and it would indeed be a scandal for you to receive Communion from an SSPX priest -- especially because you are a consecrated religious and thus must be mindful of how you will be perceived as "representative" of the Church.
