Clapping after singing in Church
Question from Dorothy on 05-20-2006:
Father, Is it proper to clap in Church during Mass? At our Parish we have some beautiful singers. Sometimes they sing Ave Maria just before the Priest is going to begin the Liturgy and all the people clap. Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't seem right. We are there to worwhip God, not to applaud someone singing. Am I wrong, or is this acceptable?

Thanks

Answer by Fr. Robert J. Levis on 05-21-2006:
Dorothy, The only applause that is proper is that of the congregation when the liturgist at an Ordination to Priesthood or Deaconate asks for the approval of the candidate from the congregation. They then applaud as a sign of their acceptance. Fr. Bob Levis
