EWTN Catholic Q&A
Misconception of Catholics as Papists
Question from Joseph Apicella on 07-10-2018:

How would you answer a person who thinks that a Catholic judge or politician would decide the application of the law of a nation different than any other person. Do you think the stereotype of"Papist" is dead or needs to be dealt with?

Answer by David Gregson on 08-14-2018:

Every person, Catholic or non-Catholic, brings his/her own beliefs, values, principles, into office. To single out a Catholic judge or politician as undesirable on that account is to reveal the critic's own bias. It means only that the critic disagrees with the candidate. That's why we have elections, to let the majority decide.
