Question from Mary on 11-05-2013:
In regards to the teenager with difficult cramps/heavy bleeding... I just wanted to offer my experience. I had the same thing going on as a teenager and into my early 20's. I began to suffer from anemia due to the heavy periods as well. Due to some fatigue and other minor symptoms, I ended up seeing an endocrinologist and was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. Once I started taking a thyroid supplement my cycles completely changed! I am now 30, and have experienced light periods since then, minor cramping, shorter cycles, and it is easy to practice Natural Family Planning (I am married). It really changed my quality of life. I highly encourage a full thyroid panel to be done to see if that is the problem!
