EWTN Catholic Q&A
Lying to save a life
Question from Sarah on 06-02-2013:

My youth group came upon a very interesting question, "Is it considered a sin if you lie to save a life?" When discussing this, we put it in the context of World War II. Say a Catholic was living in Germany and he was hiding some Jews from the Nazis in his house. One day the Nazis came and searched his house and asked him if there were any Jews. Should he lie to save their lives, or should he tell the truth in order to avoid all possibility of sin?
