EWTN Catholic Q&A
Question from maria on 11-09-2012:

I'm sorry to post here, but all other fourms were closed. I hope you can help me. I have been suffering with chronic sciatica pain for a long time. although surgery was suggested by a neurologist I am very hesitant to undergo this proceedure as I know several people who did and are not doing well. I want to consider accupuncture but would like to know what the Catholic Church's view is on this practice. I have tried to research this on line but have not had any success. I really need some guidance and would appreciate an answer(s) very, very quickly. Thank you.

Answer by Fr. John Echert on 11-12-2012:

So long as someone does this precedure for purely medical reasons and not for eastern spiritual purpose, I personally do not see a conflict. But that is only my own opinion, without research. Hope this helps, Maria, and hope you find a reprieve from your pain.
