This Lent our parish organized itself around Catholic
Relief Services activities: the Rice Bowl collection, a CRS Fair Trade Sale and even our Stations of the
Cross have used CRS materials which have us reflect on the plight of specific persons described in their
literature at each Station. Lent began with a homily
expressing concern that we as a parish have given so
little to CRS in the past 2 years. In the past we as a family donated at Lent to CRS
through the Rice Bowls, but have become reluctant to doso in the past few years because of our strong pro-life
beliefs and what we have learned about CRS. Our plan
this year is to do what we did last year and donate to another Catholic organization what we have saved by theend of Lent. Have the Bishops asked our priests to be more active
promoting CRS this Lent or in general? |

Dear LMF Right now, as we speak, our office is working with the new leadership of CRS to try to solve all
the problems that you have learned about, so my advice to you is NOT to donate to CRS this
year but hopefully stay tuned from some good news by the end of the year. Pray for Archbishop Kurtz, new president of the USCCB and Archbishop Coakley, who is
heading up the effort to clean up the CRS problems of the past. Judie |
