Dear Fr. Levis, At a time when so many professed Catholics believe the Eucharist to be nothing more than a symbol, it makes me wonder why we do not acknowledge the central mystery of our faith during the Creed Is it possible that an ancient creed can be amended, so to speak, to reflect the Catholic belief that the most blessed sacrament is indeed the body, blood, soul, and divinity of our Lord, Jesus Christ? Thanks and God bless!

Answer by Fr. Robert J. Levis on 3/24/2006: | ||||||||
Gary, Good question! Notice so many Creeds stress different points of doctrine. Why? Because each time some docrrine needed to be emphasized, it was inserted into a new Creed. Notice how short the Apostles Creed is in contrast with the Creed of the People of God of Pope Paul 6. God bless. The Creed of the Council of Trent emphaszied the Eucharist in some detail, bringing out the points being denied. Fr. Bob levis |
