prayer after communion
Question from vince on 2/7/2003:

During daily mass at our local parish, the Prayer After Communion (printed in the missalette) is not recited. After communion, the priest sits down for about 30 seconds then stands and says the Closing Prayer. Is the Prayer After Communion optional?

Answer by Colin B. Donovan, STL on 2/15/2003:

It sounds to me that he is doing it right. The Post-Communion Prayer is the last collective prayer of the Mass ("Let us pray ... etc.), followed by the rite of dismissal. Perhaps, you are refering to the Communion Antiphon? It can be omitted.
