Devotion to the King of Kings
0:30 Constantine, the first Christian Emperor, saw Christ as the King of Kings.  In modern Society, we don't really like Kings - we prefer a Democracy.  But Christ is not like other kings of this world.  He is the Crucified King. He told Pilate, "My Kingdom is not of this World."  Our Lord's "kingship" comes from His Divinity, His Divine nature.  Jesus is one person, a divine person, with two natures. St. Leo teaches that Jesus was perfect in divinity, of one substance with the Father in Divinity and perfect in His Humanity like us in every way except sin.

12/22/2007 15:30 SCANDAL OF THE CROSS
Heresies Denying the Incarnation
0:30 St. Justin Martyr was beheaded for the Faith in 167.  Wrote first Christian apology for the Faith, defending the Church and her teaching.  Samaritan from Nablus, he studied Greek philosophers, especially Plato.  Tatian (110), a friend of Justin, later founded Encratite sect called Aquarii.  They were gnostics, and believed matter was evil.  One member was Bishop Severus of Gabala, Spain, who modified it and formed a group called the Severians.  Severians believed matter was uncreated and eternal, they denied the Resurrection of the dead, free will, the law of Moses, condemned marriage as evil (St. Irenaeus argued the Faith against this.).  The Monarchians (orig. Patripassionists) founded by Praxeas believed the Father and Jesus were one.  Praxeas was influential in Rome against the Montanists, helped the Pope lead the condemnation of Montanus.  Tertulian, in his work, "Adversus Praxeam" accuses Praxeas of being anti-Trinitarian.
