Episode 1 - Saint Smithun Wells
Saint Swithun Wells is one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales. His conversion to the Catholic Faith in Elizabethan England saw him shelter hunted Catholic priests in his house in London from the Elizabethan authorities and arrange for Mass to be said secretly in his home. His fascinating story involves historical figures such as Mary Queen of Scots, the priest hunter Richard Topcliffe, Queen Elizabeth I and many other English Martyrs. For his devotion to the Catholics and priests in England, St. Swithun Wells' eventually faced a sentence of death – to be hanged outside his house in Gray's Inn Lane, London with fellow Catholic Martyr Fr. Edmund Gennings.
 
Episode 2 - Saint Philip of Arundel
St. Philip Howard was a cousin of Queen Elizabeth I, and an ambitious and worldly nobleman. His "childhood marriage" to his stepsister at age 14 was contracted so that his father could maintain the Howard wealth. With his status, talents and wealth, Saint Philip Howard advanced in British society, putting his wife aside as he pursued social rank and influence. He "grovelled" to the Queen even after she had executed his father. Upon the death of his grandfather, St. Philip Howard became second in rank after the Queen, i.e., the Earl of Arundel or Premier Earl of England. This documentary presents St. Philip Howard's life including his encounter with the famous Jesuit priest Fr. Edmund Campion, his daring conversion, his ultimate arrest and the 11 year sentence in the dread tower of London where he refused to renounce his Catholic Faith. He is one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.
 
Episode 3 - Saint Anne Line
St. Anne Line is an English Martyr who lived during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I in England. Her father raised her and her brother in the religion of the state, Anglicanism, but in a remarkable turn of events she and her brother converted in their teen years to Catholicism. They were consequently thrown out of their home by their father. The Jesuit priest Fr. John Gerard placed St. Anne Line in charge of safe houses in England where she looked after priests and organized for secret Masses to be said. She was ultimately arrested and sentenced to death when still only a young woman. In 1970, St. Anne Line was canonized by Pope Paul VI among the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.
 
Episode 4 - Saint Margaret Ward
St. Margaret Ward was an English Martyr who lived in Elizabethan England. She was born at Congleton in Cheshire and was a pious Catholic woman who moved to Elizabethan London and visited Catholic prisoners and priests in the prisons throughout the City, as well as helping the Catholic cause in Elizabethan London. St. Margaret Ward's fascinating life saw her eventually martyred because she planned and assisted in the escape from prison of a certain Father Watson. She was arrested and faced the gallows of Tyburn in London for her Catholic Faith. St. Margaret Ward was canonized by Pope Paul VI on 25 October 1970, as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.
 
Episode 5 - Saint Polydore Plasden
Saint Polydore Plasden was 28 years old when he died as an English Martyr. As a young man he had left Elizabethan England to train as a priest in France and once ordained he had returned to his homeland on the English Missions. After being hunted and travelling in disguise and in secret, he was finally captured by the priest hunters while celebrating Mass at the home of St. Swithun Wells, another English Martyr. At the Tyburn gallows, Sir Walter Raleigh was moved by Father Polydore's prayers for the Queen and interceded for a reprieve. He then allowed the execution when it was shown that Father Plasden believed that Queen Elizabeth I had no right to impose Anglicanism or forbid Catholicism. Sir Walter Raleigh insisted that Fr. Polydore Plasden only be hanged to death, not drawn and quartered per usual. Saint Polydore Plasden was canonized in 1970 and is one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.
 
Episode 6 - Saint Nicholas Owen
Known as the priest-hole maker, St. Nicholas Owen was an English carpenter whose fascinating story comes to life in this documentary. This ingenious Englishman made "priest holes," tunnels and secret rooms throughout Elizabethan England, enabling priests to evade English authorities during a time of great persecution against the Church. After many years at his unusual task, he entered the Society of Jesus and served as a lay brother, although—for very good reasons—his connection with the Jesuits was kept secret. When the Jesuits were targeted after the Gunpowder Plot, St, Nicholas Owen hid in one of his own holes as the house he was in was raided by the authorities. He finally gave himself up to protect Jesuit priests who were also hiding in priest-holes throughout the house. He was taken to the Tower of London. St. Nicholas Owen was canonized in 1970 as one of the 40 Martyrs of England and Wales.
 
Episode 7 - Saint Winifred and Her Well
St. Winifred is an inspiring Welsh Saint whose story is set in Wales in the Seventh century - a tale of faith, princes, miracles, and devotion. A series of dramatic and miraculous events filled her life, including an exciting tale with her uncle Saint Beuno, a wicked Prince Caradoc and a miraculous spring of water which is visited in Wales today, named Holywell. Saint Winifred's Well remained in Catholic hands throughout the persecution and was visited by many of the reformation Martyrs. It is known as the Lourdes of Wales. Her story comes to life using a blend of beautiful scenery, photographs, sacred art and portrayals.
 
Episode 8 - Saint Edmund Gennings
The life of Saint Edmund Gennings, one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, is brought to life in this film that traces his fascinating journey through Elizabethan England. This young and determined Englishman risked his life for the Catholic Church in Elizabethan England by travelling secretly throughout the country, evading priest hunters and the authorities so as to celebrate Mass. Arrested with Fr. Polydore Plasden at the house of Saint Swithun Wells, Fr. Gennings endured horrific tortures and a violent death where his heart was ripped out before his very eyes. He looked upon his heart and cried "Saint Gregory, Pray for me!" He was just 24 years old and his story is one of courage and Faith.
 
Episode 9 - Saint Cuthman of Steyning
Saint Cuthman's story begins in Chidham, West Sussex, in Saxon, England. This young Saxon shepherd loved God with such faith and simplicity that tales of miracles accompanied his life. Baptised by a Catholic Bishop and the Apostle of Sussex Saint Wilfrid, Saint Cuthman was raised as a shepherd boy near Chichester. A young man of deep faith and contemplation, he placed his daily life in the hands of God, accepting all as His Divine will. When Saint Cuthman's father died, he and his mother found themselves poverty stricken and forced to beg for food. Deciding to abandon themselves to Divine Providence they left their home and set out towards the rising sun. Because Saint Cuthman's mother was paralysed, the young shepherd built a cart in which to push her and together they journeyed across the South Downs, sharing the faith with those they met on the way. When the ropes that were tied to the cart snapped in Steyning, Saint Cuthman saw it as the will of God that he and his mother stay there, and so he built a church in God's Name which still stands today.
 
Episode 10 - Blessed Margaret Pole
A documentary on the life of the Countess of Salisbury, Blessed Margaret Pole, who was godmother to Princess Mary Tudor and mother of the future Cardinal Reginald Pole. Filmed on location at the Cowdray Estate in Sussex, where Blessed Margraret Pole was detained following her arrest, this film follows the whole journey of this brave English noble woman who was last of the Plantagenet's. As history unfolded around her, she boldly stood up to King Henry VIII and defended the princess Mary and the Catholic Faith. She was held in the Tower of London and finally faced the axe man in the precincts of the Tower.
 
Episode 11 - Saint Wilfrid
St. Wilfrid is an English Saint whose life of mission and evangelization took place in the 7th Century. His story is caught up in the early British Kingdoms and the great Northumbrian Kings and he was the spiritual director of Saint Etheldreda, the Abbess of Ely. While traveling back to England following his ordination in France, St. Wilfrid's ship was blown south and he landed on the southern coast of England, specifically Sussex which was still inhabited by pagans. He and his crew were not well received at first, but he would later return to serve in Sussex after being exiled as the Bishop of Northumbria. Because of this, he became known as the Apostle of Sussex. He is well known for his participation at the Council of Whitby and in converting the great Saxon kings. With a life rich in history and Faith, this film delves deep into England's past and into the heart of this Saxon Saint of England.
 
Episode 12 - Saint Edmund Campion
In a fascinating journey throughout 16th Century England, Saint Edmund Campion was to be eventually hunted by the government, wrote his famous 'Brag' and 'Ten Reasons', endured severe racking and tortures in the Tower of London and was subjected to debates with the Privy Council, during which his defense of the Catholic Faith inspired the conversion of Saint Philip Howard (Queen Elizabeth's cousin) who would later join him as an English Martyr. He was hanged, drawn and quartered for his priesthood at Tyburn aged 41 in 1581 and was canonised by Pope Paul VI in 1970. He is one of the 40 Martyrs of England and Wales.
 
Episode 13 - Saint Margaret Clitherow
This program presents the life of Saint Margaret Clitherow, English Catholic martyr. She was the wife of a wealthy butcher. She was a mother, daughter and a Catholic. She was executed for hiding hunted Catholic priests during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Saint Margaret Clitherow was known as the Pearl of York. Raised a Protestant, she experienced a total conversion to the Catholic faith during its persecution in Elizabethan England. At a time when it was illegal to be a Catholic priest within the Queen's dominions, this young Catholic woman showed a radical devotion to Jesus, the Eucharist and the priesthood by hiding these hunted men. It was a witness and a loyalty that called for her Martyrdom. This new film tells the life and death of Saint Margaret Clitherow with a cast of historical characters, narration, original music, sets of the Shambles, Town Hall, prison cells, and other powerful visuals. Saint Margaret Clitherow's story will move, challenge and inspire the Catholics of today.
 
Episode 14 - Blessed Francisco of Fatima
This film focuses upon the life of one of the three children of Fatima, Blessed Francisco Marto, who was chosen by God to receive a message for mankind, given by Our Lady over six months in 1917. He died aged 10 after an amazing life of heroic virtue and penance. This original production carefully and thoughtfully combines a blend of original portrayals with historical photographs, history, art, paintings and footage.
