| Penance! Penance! Penance!
June 21, 1823, under the Restoration, the Sacred Heart addressed a new appeal to France, by the intermediary of Mother Marie of Jesus, religious of the convent of the Oiseaux (Birds), in Paris:
“France is always well beloved to My Divine Heart and she will be consecrated to it. But it is necessary that the King be himself the one to consecrate his person, his family and his kingdom to My Divine Heart, which will have him elevated to the altar, thus that they elevate one, in the name of France, in the honor of the Holy Virgin.
“I am preparing for France a deluge of graces when she will be consecrated to My Divine Heart, and all the earth will resent the benedictions that I pour out upon her!” In 1846, it is a warning of the Holy Virgin at La Salette: In 1858, it is the great message of Lourdes, which contains a pressing exhortation: “Penance! Penance! Penance!” |
