Jennifer: Oh my gosh, it was a lot of fun. It was definitely a lot of fun. We arrived, I don't know, a couple hours ago.
Zack: They had a welcoming committee, right?
Jennifer: That’s right. We walked into this field here and they were playing some Celtic-derived music. It was pretty cool and we just kind of hanged out and watched them for a while. They were playing a smaller bagpipe that’s similar to what the Scottish people play, and there was a drummer and also another instrument that looks like a small oboe. They played some music and were dancing. They had a good time and once we settled down we got to know them a little bit. We had Mass.
Zack: had Mass…
Jennifer: I'm sorry before that we got to just break up into groups, each of us with a job. Some of us collected firewood…
Zack: dug toilets…
Jennifer: That's right, and what did I do, I practiced music with the people, with the French scouts and we tried to learn some music to prepare for Mass.
I speak a little French and they just kind of gave a quick introduction telling me about the dances here and where they came from. The people from Brittany came here,… some people came in the 14th century from Scotland and northern Ireland area to fight the English and defend the French. They moved here. So that solves our Celtic-derived songs. And each village in this area has their very own dance that’s particular to certain towns. I thought that was pretty interesting.
