At the Campsite with Teresa

I really love this here because I love nature. I love being out here, it kind of refocuses me.

At first it was really difficult, seems like each day surpasses the last. I really, really enjoy the monastery I think that was the best thing for me after being, I really enjoyed Lourdes, but the Monastery gave me sometime to myself. I'm not used to being around so many people. And there's been a real void in my life spiritually. It's been overwhelming. It's 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So especially here, it helps too.

The community we are visiting is great. It's definitely had an interest in self-sufficiency and I think this community displays it the best I've seen, Making your own bread and growing your own vegetables and something that I eventually would like to do with my own family so that was a real treat. I didn't know we were going to be able to do that.

The atmosphere of the community was, is, very very welcoming. The people even though we couldn't all speak the language or couldn't talk together, there was definitely camaraderie  there. They showed us how to make bread and I learned how to bale hay. They did all sorts of things. We looked for the sheep but we couldn't find them.

Being on the bus for a long time drives me crazy. We got here and it was wonderful. They were playing music and were very welcoming. We walked up to a huge open field. It was completely open - this is really camping.

I had a real important job because I dug the latrine so everyone had somewhere to go to the bathroom. And then when I came back the tents were up, the food was cooking, and wood was already found and everything was underway.

The Mass that we did here was beautiful, the people put together the Altar and Father did a great job. I like having Mass outside.

I am from Tampa, Florida but in the past few years I've been traveling all over. But I did work, I've been working for the Children Home Society with children who have been abused. And I was a manager of one of the houses where they live but the last five years I have been traveling. I did a Marriage and Core program out west and Organic farming in Italy. I've worked with the Red Cross in Puerto Rico after the hurricane. Also in the meantime, I'm trying to get my degree - that is slow. I love traveling, I love experiencing new cultures.

I think America gets boxed in. We are so isolated, we don't learn about everyone else who is out there. Jerry and Europeans are so lucky because they have so many countries that they're exposed to. They can drive an hour and they are in a whole new country. And people speak different kinds of languages, you know in America we don't have that. Ever since I was little, I've always wanted to experience new things. I mean how can you not love this? We're in the middle of France camping and there are people over there speak in a different language and playing music. I think it makes you appreciate every day. Everyday you wake up with something new.
