Monks don't fish but...

Brother Michael: Do we fish? No, but some of the monks used to.

Male: Do you guys have a social hour? I mean, I had the privilege of attending – of having dinner with you, and there was no talking, and was wonder. I just thought if there is a social hour, it was endangering dinner.

Brother Michael: No, that's right. There's no talking during dinner. Those of you who have eaten with us  would have seen that. It's in silence, and there's a reading. But there are two moments of the day in which the monks come together in different groups because it's a big community, and it's what you call a social hour. There's a lot of talking, a lot of laughing, a lot of joking, and stuff like that. It's recreation - very lively, very lively. We do that in order to ensure that for the rest of the day, there's this much silence as possible. It's not little silence because we have to talk to another monks, you do. But you don't ever talk just for the sake of talking. There you go.
