Fr. Mariusz on the Way of the Cross in Lourdes

“The Passion of Jesus has been for a long time the center of Christian devotion. By meditating on the path that He took to His suffering and death we remind ourselves of the sacrifice He made on our behalf and also of our need to imitate Him in our own Christian life.

Today the Way of the Cross is followed in many ways. Some people are able to travel on the Via Delorosa on the streets of Jerusalem, retracing what are the very footsteps of Jesus. Others follow the stations, stopping points by walking around their parish church or even at home.

Traditionally there have been 14 stations based loosely on the Gospel accounts of the Lord’s passion supplemented with devotional scenes.

Part of Christ’s saving work for us the Paschal Mystery. It’s not just His death but also His resurrection. He gave himself up to death on Calvary but He triumphed over death by rising from the dead and thereby offering us a chance at new life.
