A WIDOW'S WALK... WITH CHRIST

Dr. Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter take a look at widowhood from a Catholic perspective, exploring such topics as drawing close to Jesus in grief, the Virgin Mary as the exalted widow, Jesus as a second bridegroom, and much more.

Episodes:

1: Introduction and Our Widow Story
Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter discuss the fears and concerns of those who face the loss of a spouse. In this introductory episode they relate the circumstances of how they each became widows and how we can look to God for help through the inspiration of the many widowed saints.

2: Grieving: Weeping with Jesus I
Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter are joined by The Abundant Life’s Johnnette Benkovic. They discuss the grieving process and explain that no two widows will experience the exact same type of grief, and sharing it with Our Lord will make the process easier to endure.

3: Grieving: Weeping with Jesus II
Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter are again joined by The Abundant Life’s Johnnette Benkovic. They look at how the different widowed saints coped with the loss of a spouse and why forgiveness of your spouse of any actual or perceived offenses is vital to the grieving process.

4: Doubt and Faith
The loss of a spouse can lead one to doubt the existence of an all-loving God. Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter are joined by Johnnette Benkovic to discuss why it is important to put emotions aside and rely on our faith when faced with the death of a beloved husband.

5: Financial Problems, Single Parenting, and Grandparenting
When a spouse dies the financial burden can be tremendous on the surviving widow. Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter discuss the importance of getting your affairs in order before a spouse dies or suffers an incapacitating illness.

The death of a spouse can lead to intense feelings of loneliness. Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter show that if widows unite their suffering with Our Lord’s, they are better able to reach out to others and realize they are not alone.

Some widows are convinced that their lives are over after the death of their spouse. Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter relate the stories of widowed saints who went on to enter or found religious orders providing service to the Church and others.

10: Widows in Scripture
The Bible provides many examples of widows in both the Old and New Testaments. Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter discuss the stories of Judith, Ruth, Anna and other Scriptural widows showing how their examples apply to widows of today.

11: Jesus as Second Bridegroom
Several options are available for widows for leading an active life in the parish. Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter discuss how a widow can adopt a formal or informal role in service to others.

12: Consecrated Widows
Consecrated widows played an important role of service in the early Church and they are once again becoming prominent today. Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter welcome Sr. Elizabeth Seton who explains what inspired her to found the Consecrated Widows of the Good Shepherd.

13: Mary, Exalted Widow
We rarely think of the Blessed Virgin as being a widow even though St. Joseph died before Our Lord’s public ministry. Ronda Chervin and Anne Lassiter discuss how Mary provides the perfect example for widows as they follow God’s will for their lives.
