The Eucharist

With interviews and dramatic presentations from various saints, this young adult-oriented program, led by Fr. Mariusz Koch, discusses the source and summit of the Catholic Faith - the Holy Eucharist. 

EPISODES:

1- THE MARRIAGE FEAST
The Eucharist is a love feast, a marriage,  Annie, Chase, Therese, Chris, Marcel and others in the Omega group reflect on the wedding feast of Cana (John 2:1-12) with the help of saint John the Evangelist, Augustine of Hippo, Ephrem of Syria, Angela of Foligno and Birgitta of Sweden. Fathers Benedict Groeschel, Andrew Apostoli, Glenn Sudano, Bernard Murphy offer their insights.

2- THE LOAVES AND FISHES
The Eucharist increases and multiplies Christ's nourishing life and love within us. Colin,Pete, Meg, Nick, Jean Paul, Greg and Nathalie and others in the Alpha Group reflect on the miracle (John 6:1-15). They are assisted in their reflections by a communion with history's saints Cyril of Alexandria, Catherine of Siena, Augustine of Hippo, and with members of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal including Fathers Groeschel, Murphy, Apostoli and others.

3 -WALKING ON WATER
Fr. Mariusz leads the Omega group in a discussion of how Christ's walking on the water to his apostles ( John 6:16-21) opens us to discovering in the Eucharist a faith that knows no fear. Alina, Sean, Annie, Christian, Michelle, Chris and others receive the comments of saints Cyril of Alexandria, Peter Julian Eymard, Catherine of Siena, Augustine and contemporary reflections from Franciscan Friars of Renewal fathers Groeschel, Murphy, Roemer and others.

4 -THE CROWD AND THE BREAD
St. John the Evangelist shares with the alpha group Jesus' call: "Do not work for food that cannot last but work for food that endures eternal life." (John 6:22-27). Fr. Mariusz with Alexandra, Greg, Vicki, Nick, Colin, Meg explore the meaning of the sacrament as faith mystery, prayer, sign and symbol, healing presence of God. They are helped by saints Thomas Aquinas, John Chrysostom, Catherine, Cyril reflections from fathers Groeschel, Apostoli, Sudano and others.

5 -I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE
The Omega group of Chase, Alina, Annie, Christian, Natalie, Brother Andrew and others reflect on Jesus as the "bread of life" - the person of the new manna, the life of the soul, the food for our journey of return to the Father by the power of the Spirit (John 6:28-40). Traditional insights are offered by saints John Chrysostom, Augustine, Cyril, Angela of Foligno and contemporary ones by Franciscan Friars of the Renewal including fathers Groeschel, Apostoli and Sudano.

6 - TAUGHT BY GOD
Jesus declares he is "the bread come down from heaven" (John 6: 41-51) and "anyone who eats the bread will live forever." Fr. Mariusz leads the Alpha group in a search for how through the Eucharist we recover a sense of the supernatural life as the really real life. David, Greg, Colin, Natalie, Brother Augustino share their experience and listen to the words of saints Augustine, John Chrysostom, Ephrem, Alphonsus de Liguori and Franciscan Friars of the Renewal including fathers Richard, Benedict, Andrew, Bernard.

7 - THE FLESH AND BLOOD OF THE SON OF MAN
Fr. Mariusz and the Omega group explore what Jesus meant when said, "if you do not eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood you will not have life within you." (John 6:52-58). Annie, Michelle, Chris, Alina, Marcel reflect with the support of saints Hilary, John Chrysostom, Ambrose, Catherine, Birgitta, Therese and Franciscan Friars of Renewal fathers Groeschel, Apostoli and others.

8 -THE DESERTION OF MANY DISCIPLES
When Jesus offered himself in the Eucharist followers deserted him. The Alpha group seeks to grasp the challenge that "it is the spirit that gives life" (John 6:59-71). Alexandra, Nick, Greg, Sarah, John Paul and others in the Alpha group discuss what this means. Saints Thomas Aquinas, Therese of Lisieux, Cyril, Angela of Foligno and others offer their words as do Franciscan Friars of the Renewal including fathers, Sudano, Murphy, Groeschel.

9 -THE PASSOVER MEAL
The young people discuss the themes of Judas' betrayal and the meaning of the preparation of the upper room for the celebration of the old testament Passover - a journey from slavery in Egypt to freedom in the promised land (Luke22:1-13). The Omega group including Marcel, Annie, Sean, Alina and others reflect on the great the Eucharist in salvation history. Saints are Augustine, Cyril, Peter Julian Eymard. Franciscan Friars of the Renewal fathers Groeschel, Apostoli, Roemer, Fisher offer their insights.

10 - THE LAST SUPPER
The theme of the program is why the Eucharist as a living memorial, a new covenant, the dispenser of the graces of Christ's redemptive sacrifice. (Luke 22:14-20). Alexandra, Nick, Pete, Meg, Natalie and others in the Alpha explore the meaning of the first mass in the light of their own experience. They are helped by saints Thomas Aquinas, Cyril of Alexandria, John Chrysostom, Birgitta of Sweden, Angela of Foligno and by fathers Groeschel, Apostoli, Roemer and other members of the Franciscan Friars of Renewal.

11 -THE CROSS OF SACRIFICE
The Omega Group including Chris, Alina, Marcel, Chase, Michelle share from their loves the meaning of the Mass as the Church's re-living of Christ's loving sacrifice for us on Calvary (Mt 27:32-56). The sharings of the young people in the scriptures are deepened by the insights of saints Cyril of Alexandria, Leonard of Casanova, Augustine of Hippo, Ephrem, Birgitta of Sweden and by members of the Franciscan Friars of Renewal including fathers Sudano, Fisher, Groeschel and Murphy.

12 -THE NEW LIFE OF RESURRECTION
The events surrounding Christ's resurrection (John 20:1-18) and their implication for the new life of grace to be found in the Eucharist are explored by members of the Alpha Group. Colin, David, Greg, Brother Augustino and others. Saints John Chrysostom, Augustine, Birgitta of Sweden, Angela of Foligno unpack the spiritual meanings from living tradition with the help of members of the Franciscan Friars of Renewal including fathers Groeschel, Apostoli, Murphy and others.

13 -THE EMMAUS JOURNEY
The Mass as an experience of discipleship - of walking with Jesus and recognizing him in the breaking of bread (Luke 24: 13-35) is the theme of the program. Omega Group members Chris, Natalie, Marisol, Michelle, Brother Andrew and others share their life experience in the light of the reflections of saints Ephrem, Ambrose, Augustine, Peter Julian Eymard, Catherine of Siena and of fathers Groeschel, Sudano, Murphy
of the Franciscan Friars of Renewal.
