Pope Francis will visit South Korea Aug. 13-18 to participate in the celebration of the 6th Asian Youth Day and to preside over the beatification of 124 Korean martyrs, whose causes he approved in February. The motto for the papal trip is "Asian Youth! Wake up! The glory of the martyrs shines upon you."
The Pope's trip will undoubtedly be a great boon to Korea's burgeoning Catholic Church. Although only 12 percent of the country calls itself Catholic, they are a strong minority community, which includes at least 30 members of Parliament. We'll have to see what happens to the number of vocations and the faithful after our Holy Father's visit!
