| Not only is today a solemnity in the Church but it also has additional significance for so many of us. This August 15th marks the 30th anniversary of EWTN's founding. It was thirty years ago today that a little nun in Birmingham Alabama launched a network that this week will bring viewers all over the world the most complete coverage of the Pope in Madrid available anywhere. Just as importantly, today also marks Mother Angelica's 67th year in religious life. It was on this day in 1944 that she entered the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration in Cleveland Ohio (actually they were called the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration at the time, but these are niggling details only a biographer would trifle with). Happy Anniversary Reverend Mother, and thank you for what you have offered those watching around the world-- and what you have given those of us who have known your faith and courage up close. |
