CHURCH IN SEVILLE WARNS ABOUT TV FORTUNETELLERS |
| Magic and Witchcraft "Are Contrary to Virtue of
Religion"
MADRID, 6 SEP (ZENIT.org). The Archdiocese of Seville is warning the faithful about the spread of television programs in which viewers call on the help of fortunetellers, witches and tarot card soothsayers to fathom the future. Such programs and advertisements are becoming more common on Spanish television. The archdiocesan weekly newspaper, "Church in Seville," warned that all magic and witchcraft practices "are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion." It added that "these practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention to harm another, whether or not they take recourse to the intervention of demons." Regarding knowledge of the future the paper said, "God can reveal the future to prophets and other saints," It recommended that one "give oneself into the hands of Providence with confidence as regards the future, and to abandon all unhealthy curiosity in this respect." The newspaper warned that "the consultation of horoscopes, astrology, palmistry, the interpretation of omens and fate, visual phenomena, recourse to mediums, entail a will to power over time, history and, lastly, men, while gaining the protection of occult powers." All these practices, it concluded, "are in contradiction to the honor and respect, mixed with loving fear that we owe only to God." ZE00090610 |
