Liberation
from Sin: |
God gave the example of the Jubilee in the
Old Testament with its liberation from earthly debts to prepare for the true liberation
provided by Jesus Christ, liberation from bondage to sin. The Jubilee Indulgence, which in conjunction with the remission of the
eternal guilt of sin in sacramental confession, remits the temporal punishment due to
already forgiven sin, has always, therefore, been the most important part of the Church's
Jubilee celebration.
Traditionally gained by Pilgrimage, the Vicar of Christ has greatly
broadened the opportunities to gain the Indulgence, so that it is truly available to every
Catholic, every day, of the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000. |
