Théodore-Adrien Sarr was born 28 November 1936 in Fadiouth, Senegal. He was ordained a priest of Dakar, Senegal on 28 May 1964. Further studies at the University of Dakar and pastoral ministry at the parish of Saint-Thérèse, Dakar, as assistant of the groups of Catholic Action. Professor of the Minor Seminary of N'Gasobil; later, its superior, 1970-1974. On 1 July 1974, he was appointed Bishop of Kaolack, Senegal, and ordained Bishop on 24 November 1974. He was appointed Archbishop of Dakar, Senegal, on 2 June 2000. President of the Episcopal Conference of Sénégal, Mauritania, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau. First vice-president of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar. He was elevated to Cardinal, 24 November 2007, by Pope Benedict XVI.
