Cardinal George Pell was born on April 8, 1941, in Australia. His learned writings have appeared in many magazines and journals, and he speaks regularly on television and radio, oversees, and in his native country, teaching about marriage and family values. From 1979 until 1984, he was editor of Light, the magazine of the Ballarat diocese. He has assisted in the establishment of the Australian campus of the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the Family, and the Mary of the Cross Centre, which assists families dealing with drug and alcohol abuse. For many years he served as a consultor to the Pontifical Council for the Family. In 2002, he was appointed to the Presidential Committee of that Council. On October 21, 2003, he was created a cardinal priest. His titular church is St. Mary Dominic Massarello. He serves as Archbishop of Sydney, Australia. |
