Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera was born in La Purísima, Mexico, on June 6, 1942. He was ordained a priest on July 3, 1966. He taught dogmatic theology at the major seminary of Mexico City. He was a professor of ecclesiology at the Pontifical University of Mexico. On November 5, 1985, he became bishop of Tehuacán. He became archbishop of Mexico City on June 13, 1995. On February 21. 1998, he was created a cardinal. His titular church is St. Francis of Assisi at Ripa Grande. He is Archbishop of Mexico City, and a member of the Congregation for the Clergy, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, the Council for the Family, and the Commission for Latin America. |
