Cardinal Julio Terrazas Sandoval, C.SS.R., was born on March 7, 1936, in Vallegrande, Bolivia. He was ordained a priest for the Redemptorists on July 29, 1962. He became superior of the Redemptorist community in Vallegrande and vicar forane. He was appointed auxiliary bishop of La Paz, and consecrated on April 15, 1978. On January 9, 1982, he transferred to the see of Oruro. In 1985 and 1988, he was president of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference. He was appointed archbishop of Santa Cruz on February 6, 1991. On February 21, 2001, he was created a cardinal priest, and assigned to the titular church of St. John Baptist Rossi. He continues to serve as Archbishop of Santa Cruz. His Curial membership includes the Council for the Laity and the the Commission for Latin America.
