Cardinal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez was born in Yahualica, Mexico, on March 28, 1933. He was ordained a priest on October 27, 1957. On April 30, 1988, he was ordained coadjutor bishop of Ciudad Juárez, and became bishop on July 11, 1992. He was appointed archbishop of Guadalajara on April 21, 1994. On November 26, 1994, he was created a cardinal, and given the titular church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Philip the Martyr on Via Aurelia. He continues to serve as Archbishop of Guadalajara. He is a member of the Congregation for Institutes of Religious Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, the Congregation for Catholic Education, the Commission for Latin America, the Office of Economic Affairs of the Holy See, the Council for the Laity, and the Council for Latin America. |
