Cardinal Pedro Rubiano Sáenz was born in Cartago, Colombia, on September 13, 1932. He was ordained a priest on July 8, 1956. He served as the chaplain for Marco Fidel Suárez Air Force Academy, St. Liberata National College, and Our Lady of Remedies Clinic. On June 2, 1971, he was appointed bishop of Cúcuta, and consecrated on June 11 of that year. He was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Cali on March 26, 1983, and succeeded to that see on February 7, 1985. He was the apostolic administrator of Popayán, as well as president of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia. He was appointed archbishop of Bogotá on December 27, 1994. On February 21, 2001, he was created a cardinal. His titular church is the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He continues to serve as Archbishop of Bogotá. He is a member of the Congregation for Catholic Education and the Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant Peoples. |
