Cardinal Paul Poupard was born in Bouzille, France, on August 30, 1930. He was a scholar and author of a number of different works. He was ordained titular bishop of Usula and auxiliary bishop of Paris on April 6, 1979. He received the titles of archbishop and pro-president of the Secretariat for Non-Believers in 1980. On May 25, 1985, he was created a cardinal deacon, and transferred to the order of cardinal priests on January 29, 1996. His titular church is St. Praxedes. From 1985 until 1993, he was the president of the Pontifical Council for Dialogue with Non-Believers. In 1988, he became the President of the Pontifical Council for Culture. He serves in the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, the Congregation for Catholic Education, the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, and the Council for Interreligious Dialogue. |
