Cardinal Michael Michai Kitbunchu was born on January 25, 1929, in Samphran, Thailand. He was ordained a priest on December 20, 1959, in Rome. He served as rector of the metropolitan seminary in Bangkok from 1965 until 1972. On June 3, 1973, he was ordained archbishop of Bangkok. He was created a cardinal on February 2, 1983, the first from Thailand. His titular church is St. Laurence in Panisperna. He continues to serve as Archbishop of Bangkok. In the Roman Curia, he serves in the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and the Congregation for the Discipline of the Sacraments.
