Cardinal Giacomo Biffi was born on June 13, 1928, in Milan, Italy. He was ordained a priest on December 23, 1950. On January 11, 1976, he was ordained titular bishop of Fidene and auxiliary bishop of Milan. He became archbishop of Bologna on April 19, 1984, and was created a cardinal on May 25, 1985. His titular church is Sts. John the Evangelist and Petronius. He continues to serve as Archbishop of Bologna. In the Roman Curia, he is a member of the Congregation for the Clergy, the Congregation for Catholic Education, and the Congregation for Evangelization. He retired as Archbishop of Bologna, 16 December 2003.
