Cardinal László Paskai, O.F.M., was born in Szeged, Hungary, on May 8, 1927. He was ordained a priest on March 3, 1951. On April 5, 1978, he was ordained titular bishop of Bavagaliana and apostolic administrator of Veszprem. He became bishop of Veszprem on March 31, 1979. On April 5, 1982, he became coadjutor archbishop of Kalocsa. He became archbishop of Esztergom on March 3, 1987. 'Esztergom' was renamed 'Esztergom-Budapest' in 1993. He was created a cardinal on June 28, 1988. His titular church is St. Theresa (al Corso d'Italia). He is a member of the Congregation for Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, and the Council for the Interpretation of Legislative Texts. He retired as Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, Hungary on 7 December 2002.
