Cardinal Miguel Obando Bravo, S.D.B., was born in La Libertad, Nicaragua, on February 2, 1926. He was ordained a priest on August 10, 1958. On March 31, 1968, he was ordained titular bishop of Puzia di Bizacena and auxiliary bishop of Matagalpa. On February 16, 1970, he became archbishop of Managua. He was created a cardinal on May 25, 1985. His titular church is St. John the Evangelist (a Spinaceta). He continues to serve as Archbishop of Managua. He is a member of the Congregation for the Clergy, the Congregation for Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and the Commission for Latin America. He is Archbishop emeritus of Managua, Nicaragua. |
