On Saturday afternoon,
25 March, the Holy Father met the consuls general of various
countries at the Apostolic Delegation in Jerusalem and greeted
them briefly in English. Here is the text of his remarks.
Esteemed Consuls General,
I am happy to have this opportunity to meet you and to encourage you in the mission that you carry
out in this unique city and land. You come from different countries and represent different peoples
and political systems, but without exception you are pledged to serving the same great cause: the
promotion of peace and understanding among peoples and nations.
In this important sphere, no accomplishment or gain—no matter how small it may seem—will fail to
have a positive effect on the entire family of man. I encourage you to bring to your work all the
energy of a deeply-felt ideal: that of building a world firmly based on solid foundations of peace,
justice and respect for human rights and dignity. May God who is the source of our peace
abundantly bless every effort aimed at securing an era of sincere
understanding and cooperation among the nations of the earth.
God bless you and your families!
