Q: What is a podcast?

A: A podcast is a series of digital audio or video files that are released periodically and downloaded through web syndication.
Essentially, podcasting allows you to select the things you'd like to listen to, subscribe to them, have them downloaded to your computer or portable audio device, and listen to them when you want to. Once you’ve subscribed, they will update automatically for you.

Q: What type of file is your podcast in?

A: We use the MP3 format. This way if you want to download a file you can play it in your MP3 player.

Q: How often do you update your podcast?

A: Currently we update only Monday thru Friday 8 to 5 ET. We will update the night's live program the next morning while the Mass Homily would be posted a few hours after it airs.

We post the monthly highlight series the first of each month.

Q: How do you subscribe to a podcast?

A: There several ways and each depends on the program / software you are using to get podcasts. Please consult the software website for help.

For this instant, let's use one of the more popular podcast software- iTunes.

The easy way is to go to the iTunes store and look up EWTN. All you have to do is click and subscribe. The problem is there is a lot of clicking if you want every program EWTN offers.

Now, let's subscribe a different way which you are more in control.

First go to www.ewtn.com/podcast

You will see several orange button on this page. Two for each program we offer. One is

for the direct download of the MP3 of the program without subscribing. That is covered in the next question.

The other orange button says "XML"

Once you click on this a pop-up window it will show with a 'code' inside it. (Please make sure your pop-up blocker is turned off for ewtn.com so you can see this.)

We are going to subscribe to the "everything' podcast. This will give you a list of ALL EWTN podcast.

Click the first orange button on the page at www.ewtn.com/podcast and the code shows in the pop-up.
 

Copy this code, which you can see is" http://www.ewtn.com/rss/RSS_daily_av.xml "

and open your iTunes.

In iTunes look for the tab at the top that says "Advanced"

Next in drop down menu you will see the words "Subscribe to Podcast"

Once that is clicked, a box will open
Paste your copied code into that box and click OK.

All of EWTN's podcast should show up now.

Q: How do I get a podcast into my MP3 player?

A: Click on the orange button marked MP3, this is on the page  www.ewtn.com/podcast and download audio file.

After you have downloaded the file to a folder on your hard drive it will have a name such as  " el_02172010.mp3". You can tell what it is by the initials of the show "el" for EWTN Live and the numbers are the date the show aired.

You then will need to read your owners manual and see how to import files into your player.

Examples : For an iPod ( or similar device) you should use iTunes. Under File  - go to  'Add  File To Library'. Find file you downloaded and it should import into your iPod once it is connected to your computer.

For other MP3 devices, once you have download file, plug your MP3 player into computer. It may see this as another letter drive or external device. ( Example could be E: or F:)   Simply select audio file and drop and drag it into your MP3 player via the computer.

If this does not work you may have to go to manufactures website.

Q: How can I make an Audio CD from the downloaded files? 

A: Again we use the MP3 format. Consult your CD burning software guide on how to burn MP3's as audio CD's.

If yours will not do this you can find other software for free or use a search engine to look for MP3 convertors.

Q: My podcast subscription has stopped gathering your podcasts. All other podcast are fine. I don't get Open Line but Life on the Rock is downloading to my MP3 player. How can I fix this?

A: Unfortunately, this is caused by a corrupt file. It can be on our end or in your software. The easy thing to do is unsubscribe or delete the link to our file and re-subscribe.
