Rev.
Richard M. Hogan was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on July
31, 1951, the oldest of six children. He attended Catholic grade
school and high school, graduating summa cum laude from the
University of St. Thomas in St. Paul in 1973 with a B.A. in
history. The next year was spent studying history at the University
of Munich in Germany on a Fulbright grant. Returning to the
Twin Cities, Fr. Hogan attended graduate school at the University
of Minnesota earning a M.A. and Ph.D. in medieval history in
1975 and 1978 respectively. He was ordained a Roman Catholic
priest for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis in 1981.
Since his ordination, he has co-authored two books on the theology
of Pope John Paul II with his classmate, the Rev. John M. LeVoir,
also of the Archdiocese of St. Paul. In these books, the two
priests argue that Pope John Paul II has a new way of presenting
the Catholic faith more appropriate to our century. Seeing the
need to teach young people the Pope's new understanding of the
faith, Fr. Hogan was one of the authors and editors of the Image
of God series, a textbook program for use in Catholic religion

of Kansas. Here he discovered the need of the Church to address
the intellectual life. During the summers of these eight years
he acquired a masters degree in catechetics and a masters degree
in academic theology.
In 1976 he was assigned to
teach theology at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas and to
be the college chaplain. This familiarized him with the
problems and challenges of higher Catholic education. Between
1980 and 1985 he earned a doctorate in moral theology at the
Catholic University of America, under the direction of Dr.
William E. May. For the next five years he resumed teaching
theology and served as college chaplain at Benedictine College.
In 1990 he began a ten
year tour of duty proclaiming the Gospel of Life throughout the
world, as a member of Human Life International, where he
eventually served as President and Chairman of the Board. He
has done two series for EWTN, on Catholic Social Teaching and on
the 25th anniversary of Humanae Vitae, and was a guest on
various EWTN shows. He has lectured extensively throughout the
world in 55 countries to a wide variety of audiences on the life
issues, and has first hand experience of the problems
confronting the culture of life.
[In December of 2000 he
returned to St. Benedict's Abbey, where he was the Director of
Retreats, while also giving NFP Weekend Parish Missions, and
providing occasional Hispanic Outreach, Prison Ministry and
serving as Abbey Librarian.]

accepted a full time position with NFP Outreach, which provides
