| JUBILEE OF
POLITICIANS PROMISES SURPRISES
| BETHLEHEM, (ZENIT).- Yasser Arafat, President of the Palestinian Authority, will personally
preside over the Committee of Honor to welcome 1,000 parliamentarians from around the world,
who will begin their Jubilee pilgrimage in Bethlehem on October 25, following St. Paul's footsteps.
The pilgrimage will end in Rome on November 4, when the politicians will take part in the
Assembly of the "World Parliament," to be held in the Vatican General Audience Hall. The
following day, November 5, an estimated 4,000 politicians will be joined by at least 100 heads of
State and Government to celebrate the Jubilee of Governors and Parliamentarians.
Arafat has stressed that the presence of all these parliamentarians in Palestine will help promote
the peace process in the Middle East. Last Tuesday, during an Assembly of the Jubilee
Parliamentary group, which was held in the Italian Senate, Giulio Andreotti, a former Prime
Minister, was elected president of the Executive Committee that will welcome these very special
pilgrims to Italy. The Committee of Honor is presided by Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi,
who is also promoting the initiative.
