I sent this to his Holiness two weeks before he died. I'd like to share it with you.
I just wanted to say thank you for a few things.
*Thank you for being strong when I was weak.
*Thank you for defending the truth when lies were more convenient for me.
*Thank you for being God's Vicar here on earth throughout my adult life even when I didn't appreciate it.
*Thank you for being more concerned about my soul than my short-term feelings and convenience.
*Thank you for believing in our elders when I thought their faith and morality was outdated and irrelevant.
*Thank you for believing in our young people when I thought their faith and morality was non-existent.
*Thank you for delivering us into a new millennium when I thought it was just another number.
*Thank you for extending the church's hand to our separated brethren when I thought there were too many issues to overcome.
*Thank you for defending the unborn when I feared that I would be stereotyped and labeled a hypocrite.
*Thank you for speaking up for peace when I felt war might be justified.
*Thank you for standing for the true dignity of women when I believed they should take on man's worse traits to compete in and validate the male world.
*Thank you for not compromising our beliefs when I thought it might be a good idea to appease some of our critics after scandals occurred.
*Thank you for reminding us how to love the sinner and hate the sin when I wrote them off.
*Thank you for standing for justice when I thought there were many who didn't deserve it.
Most of all - Thank you - You are in my prayers.
